What is Rolf® Structural Integration?

Dr_ Ida P Rolf_Laughing.jpg

Named after its founder, Dr. Ida P. Rolf, Rolf® Structural Integration (aka: Rolf SI or Rolfing) is a unique manual therapy intervention that promotes postural alignment and balance in the body.

Dr. Rolf’s work is based on her insight that the body is more at ease and functions most effectively when its structure is balanced in gravity. More than fifty years ago, Dr. Rolf recognized that the body is inherently a complex, seamless, network of tissues rather than a collection of separate parts. These connective tissues surround, support and penetrate all of the muscles, bones, nerves and organs.

What can Rolfing do for me?

Balance | Ease | Support

Rolf® SI practitioners work with the fascial connective tissue of the body to differentiate and align areas of chronic tension. By relieving discomfort and reducing movement dysfunction clients feel more at ease and enjoy improved function with daily activities.

Clients report feeling improved posture without efforting, increased energy throughout the day and decreased pain with movement.

What can I expect?

Rolf® SI is a hands on therapy. The client is partially clothed usually with shorts, sports bra or a bathing suit. Similar to massage, clients are on a massage table either lying down or seated. The sessions are typically 60-75 minutes in length. The practitioner and client are able to freely communicate throughout the session.
